Third published story… A long overdue update

So, we’ve determined that blogging is not my calling. I suppose it’s good that I’m not trying to pursue a career as a blogger….

As for updates, Since my last post way back in February of 2019 (boy, was the world different back then!), I’ve had another story published. My third publication, a story called “Proving Pictures”, is in Third Flatiron’s Hidden Histories anthology. I’m really happy with how this story turned out. It is nice when you have something in mind, and develop the idea along the way to the point where in the end you have even more than you were going for. That was published waaayyyy back in April of 2019.

It’s been a crazy couple of years – I suppose I was prescient in adding the “sometimes?” to the blog title, as the fiction writing has been slow recently. I think 2021 will see a nice uptick in writing for me, but that’s easier to say than to do, so that’s all I’ll say!

Second published story and other updates…

Wow, I’ve been neglecting this thing! I suppose it is better that my writing time is being used, you know, actually writing fiction. I don’t know if I’m much of a blogger anyway, we’ll see how that works out.

I entirely failed to announce that my second published story came out last year. It is a noir story titled “Crossing Lines” and it is in Switchblade magazine issue #5. Switchblade is a gritty crime/noir magazine that I enjoy reading and am excited and proud to be a part of. One word of caution: I use the word gritty on purpose, it isn’t for the faint of heart! Bad things happen, F-bombs are used, and that’s just in the editor’s introduction! If you are all-in, here is a convenient buying link: Switchblade Magazine Issue 5.

Other than that, I’ve recently been focusing more on my various novels-in-progress than short stories. The upside of that is that it will be great when I get those done, the downside of course is that I don’t have published short stories or much else to share in the meantime. I *am* close to finished with a first draft of one of them, which hopefully will give me momentum on the others.

Aright, hopefully my next update will come at a quicker pace!

Nothing like your first time???

Well, my name is in print. For real. In a book. That people I don’t know will read. Somehow I feel more frightened than excited. PEOPLE I DON’T EVEN KNOW will read it. I guess that’s the whole point of sending my stories out, but now it’s real…

I’m glad that the book is finally out! I’ve checked out a few of the other stories, and have enjoyed them so far. I don’t have any more publications on the horizon, so this will be it for the near term at least. I’m still writing, still sending my stories out, and sometimes I work on a couple of ideas for novels I have. Which I need to finish, and then send out…  Good thing I have a day job!

Regardless, this is pretty exciting! My goal at the beginning of the year (when I started writing seriously) was to get fifty rejections or one acceptance during 2017. I thought it much more likely I would get fifty rejections rather than the one acceptance. I’m probably not going to hit the fifty, but that’s only because my short story output slowed a bit this summer and I am fairly selective as to where I try to publish. I DID get the one acceptance, which is pretty nice.

OK, back to writing!

First Published Story!

I sold a story to Flame Tree Publishing’s upcoming Time Travel anthology! I wrote this story specifically for this anthology, and I’m very excited it will be included! These books look beautiful, I can’t wait to have one in my hands! I notice I’m ending every sentence with an exclamation point here, but my first published work is worth it!

Announcement link for the anthology:

Looks like it is due out in July.  I’ll keep you posted.
